2019.02.21 02:53 Chazzyphant For those that want to fall in love or back in love with the fashion industry

Your dollars matter. Here's where you can spend them to shape the fashion industry to what we wish it would be:
*Text credits: More Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Sustainably chic.com, organic spa magazine article
Kenneth Cole
In 1987, Kenneth Cole joined the Board of Trustees of amfAR (The American Foundation for AIDS Research). Today, he is Chairman of the Board, and he matches donations to amfAR dollar for dollar, up to $100,000. Cole, who has publicly supported AIDS research since 1985, is known for the controversial advertising of his brand, such as its “We All Have AIDS” campaign. The amfAR Web site quotes Cole as saying, “It is great to be known for your shoes. It is even better to be recognized for your soul.” In addition to his work with amfAR, Cole also sits on the board of HELP USA, the largest provider of jobs, homes, and services for the homeless. Many in the fashion industry consider him one of the strongest, most important voices for positive change.
Donna Karan
Fashion powerhouse Donna Karan created the Urban Zen Foundation in New York City’s West Village to promote creating, connecting, and collaborating on awareness for well-being, empowering children, and preserving cultures. Karan, whose husband died of lung cancer in 2001, devotes much of her philanthropic endeavors to the research of holistic medicine and cancer treatment. Through her Urban Zen Foundation, Karan has partnered with the chairman of the Department of Integrative Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center, Dr. Woodson Merrell, and with Beth Israel Medical Center’s Continuum Center for Health and Healing to establish “a major multi-component initiative that includes physical changes to the environment of the oncology unit, the introduction of skilled yoga therapy, staff retraining to encourage optimal healing, and a rigorous research program.” In April 2009, USA Today reported that Karan donated $850,000 to the Beth Israel Medical Center to “bring yoga therapy and a new kind of caregiving to the cancer wing.”
EDUN
Bono started this ultra-eco-conscious brand in 2006 with his wife, Ali Hewson. The pair set out to create a for-profit fashion line that focuses on raising awareness of the possibilities in Africa by ultimately encouraging the fashion community to do business there. The label actively engages in sourcing organic and sustainable materials whenever it’s possible. The brand promotes the idea that organic cotton provides healthier working conditions and is a valuable market opportunity for farmers in Africa.
Fashion Project
Founded by Anna Palmer and Christine Rizk in hopes of using fashion as a force for good, Fashion Project is an e-commerce site based out of Boston where members can donate their designer clothing or accessories and donate to a charity of choice. Fashion Project will then photograph the pieces and re-sell them on the site with 55% of proceeds going to a good cause.
The selling of one dress alone buys 300 meals for families in need through the Greater Boston Food Bank while a pair of shoes provides 2 microfinance loans for female entrepreneurs based in Uganda. So even if you don't currently have any clothing to donate, you can still shop for a good cause.
Satya Jewelry
Symbolizing 'truth', Satya Jewelry, uses handcrafted jewelry made with semi-precious stones and meaningful symbols to empower women and give back to children in need across the globe. Through the Satya Foundation, the jewelry has already donated $1 million to children's charities ranging from The Manjushree Orphanage to Charity Water.
Same Sky Jewelry
Same Sky taps women from Rwanda to New York City to create beautiful hand-crafted jewelry in order to provide job opportunities and self-sufficiency. The empowering brand trains women and provides them with the tools needed to create jewelry which is then sold by Same Sky across the world. After starting in Rwanda in order to aide women left distraught by the genocide, Same Sky has also furthered their mission to New York where they provide jobs for women after incarceration.
Lemlem
Founded by model Liya Kebede, Lemlem—which means to bloom or flourish—preserves and sells the art of Ethiopian weaving through scarves, apparel and accessories. Through e-commerce, Lemlem is able to bring the beauty of Ethiopia's bold and bright weaving across the world while providing jobs and preserving the nation's handcrafted art.
Sevenly
Sevenly is an e-commerce site that teams up with a different charity each week to create a line of t-shirts or accessories raising awareness for the cause. $7 from every purchase will go towards that charity of the week in the ultimate do-gooder flash sale, which typically frequents limited edition pieces. To date, the sales of their collaborations have raised over $4 million in total to help benefit the charities spotlighted and also feature some pretty statement-making t-shirts.
the tote project 20% of profits are donated to Two Wings
If there is one brand that radiates hope & compassion in the most practical way {because many of us could tote-ally use a tote!}, it's this one. Based on friendship & a shared dream, Fay Grant and Michelle Chavez started the The Tote Project to support the recovery for victims of modern day slavery. With hope, they strive to empower survivors of human trafficking by providing them opportunities and helping show their worth & potential. Each tote is sewn in India by women who have left the sex trade, and with every purchase made 20% of profits are donated to Two Wings, a US non-profit dedicated to helping survivors pursue their dreams.
palabra
A book is donated to a low-income child with each purchase.
Eco-tees that inspire and give back, Palabra's statement t-shirts are sure to make you think. These aren’t your average tees. They are soft with a great drape, AND they tread lightly on the planet. Made with a blend of organic cotton and recycled polyester, you’ll look good and feel good when wearing them!
olori
One month of tuition fees for an underprivileged girl
Olori is the word for Queen in the Yoruba language {spoken in West Africa}, which symbolizes the inherent worth & power within every girl. All of Olori’s handbags are made by artisans and women-owned businesses in Nigeria, AND each bag pays one month of tuition fees for an underprivileged girl in Africa. It truly doesn’t get more women-focused than this!!
all the wild roses
Each Purchase Helps Fund a Woman in Need to Start Her Own Business
A brand about living your own adventure and following your heart, All the Wild Roses take on slow fashion is romantic, inspiring and incredibly beautiful. Plus, they have partnered up with a wonderful organization called Opportunity International Australia through their program “Dare to Dream”. This project was created to bring opportunity to women in underprivileged countries who are struggling to provide even the most basic essentials for their family.
little by little jewellery Action Against Hunger
For every purchase you make, Little by Little donates the funding to pay for three day's supply of therapeutic food to nurse an acutely malnourished child back to health through the program Action Against Hunger. I love how their mission to help others ties into the aesthetic of the designs.
Vaute Couture (haute couture with a V for vegan)
founder Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart says she’s an activist first and foremost—as well as a fashion visionary. “I’ve been running campaigns for the animals since I was eight years old and later created recycling programs at my high school and food drives in college,” says the Brooklyn, NY-based designer who launched her company in 2008. “Business is an incredible way to create change, too.” Organic Production The Vaute Couture collection is completely vegan, made from recyclable and recycled fibers, and it is produced locally. “Vegan clothes aren’t just for vegans,” she says. “I’ve dedicated my life to creating fashion that takes animals out of the equation. I create innovative textiles and clothing and our collection is cut and sewn mostly in New York City. There’s no better impact we can make than to create positive change.” Giving Back Matters The company designs two benefit tees a month to support and raise awareness for nonprofits focused on animal safety. “We do adoption events with animal rescues, awareness-raising events and campaigns raising awareness specifically on how animals suffer and are killed for fashion,” she says. “It’s a cause that’s very close to my heart.”
Nau
The most rigorous of sustainable design criteria are in place whenever a Nau collection is brought to market at this Portland, OR-based apparel brand. Organic Production Launched in 2007, Nau-designed pieces use only natural, renewable or recycled fibers produced in a sustainable manner. The company also has a robust RSL (restricted substances list) to reduce the use of toxic chemicals that are often used in textile production. “Our sustainable design criteria ensure that each product has the lowest environmental impact possible and that it will be a long-lasting, high-quality product,” says Mark Galbraith, Nau’s general manager. Giving Back Matters For Galbraith, a critical part of sustainability is being a responsible member of both a local and global community. To that end, the company has a Partners for Change program, in which two percent of every product sold goes to one of six nonprofit partner organizations. “Our partners are doing important work to improve the environmental, social and economic conditions on our planet, both locally and globally,” Galbraith says. “Plus, every customer can actually choose which of our six partners she wants her two percent go to.” nau.com
Industry of all nations
Using organic cotton and indigo dyes, the three brothers who run the Culver City, CA-based Industry of All Nations, are intensely focused on eco-production and work directly with local craftspeople to bring their pieces to a global market. “It’s just in our hearts,” says Juan Gerscovich, who co-founded the company in 2010. “When we started out, our goal was to bring clothing production back to where the raw materials are and work with local communities to produce garments sustainably.” Organic Production The company, which launched with an original Argentine espadrille, is dedicated to promoting social, environmental and cultural awareness. Since then, through their Clean Clothes Project, they’ve built a dye house in the south of India where they get their organic cotton, cut-and-sew work and where they produce all-natural dyes. Giving Back Matters Out of a long list of charitable partnerships, Gerscovich says a favorite is The Alpaca Project, through which they support a local co-op in Bolivia, where the women knitters are now able to work from home, alleviating long commutes, all the while keeping alive a cultural art form that has been passed down from mother to daughter. industryofallnations.com
Jungmaven
At Jungmaven, a Seattle-based T-shirt company, founder Robert Jungmann began advocating for the use of hemp in clothing in 1993 and, in 2010, launched Hemp T-Shirt by 2020 campaign, with the idea of getting everyone to wear hemp Ts by 2020. Organic Production To create the collection’s made in the USA Ts, Jungmann uses natural dyes such as coffee, black tea, indigo, walnut, pomegranate, onion peel, red wine and creosote and hemp—which cleans oxygen and water, nourishes the land, uses little to no pesticides, and needs a fraction of the water that cotton takes to grow. Giving Back Matters Since the early ‘90s, Jungmann has been a leader in the hemp movement and, to date, has sold or given away approximately 1.5 million hemp T-shirts, furthering the company’s mission to raise hemp awareness. “We try to put those light bulbs on,” he says. “We’re passionate about getting our Ts out there so that people start realizing that hemp is such a better fiber than cotton when it comes to clean fashion manufacturing.” jungmaven.com
zady. com
Maxine Bédat, co-founder of Zady, an ethical-fashion website, is on a mission: She’d love for consumers to stop buying clothing just because it’s inexpensive and start supporting brands that aim to manufacture “clean” with less impact on the environment. “We’ve been trained for so long to think, ‘It’s so cheap, I should have it,’” she says. “But there is way too much clothing being produced. That’s the biggest challenge we’re facing as an industry.” In fact, it’s the rise of “fast fashion” within the apparel industry that’s directly responsible for the release of excessive greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, as well as damage to the environment overall. Cotton alone is notorious for its intensive use of water and pesticides, for example, and experts estimate that the average American household produces 82 pounds of textile waste every year. We spoke with seven company leaders who are not only ethically minded and have created a manufacturing process with a smaller environmental footprint, but they have a give-back philosophy where philanthropy is just as important as what is trending on runways.
amour vert
With a name that means “green love” in French and a motto that “with every tee, plant a tree,” Amour Vert’s founders (and husband-and-wife) Linda Balti and Christoph Frehsee are committed to eco-friendly fashion. “We were inspired to create the company when we learned that fashion is the second most polluting industry next to oil,” says Frehsee. “We challenged ourselves to create accessibly priced contemporary fashion that was also sustainable.” Organic Production Amour Vert’s collection of dresses, T-shirts and skirts feature American manufacturing, non-toxic dyes, sustainable fibers, innovative fabrics and a zero-waste design philosophy. Giving Back Matters The company partnered with American Forests and, by the end of 2015, will have planted 100,000 trees across the country. In fact, this past April, the company vowed to plant a tree for each person who Instagrammed their favorite photo of a tree in honor of Earth Day.
“We were first inspired to create the company when we learned the disturbing reality that fashion is the second most polluting industry next to oil.” Kristen Bell, Jordana Brewster and others took to Instagram to encourage people to help the company plant trees. “Since we use fibers derived from tree pulp in our T-shirts, the Plant a T(r)ee program is our 360 degree approach to fashion and our way of giving back to the environment.” amourvert.com
and of course, my beloved... Eileen Fisher
-really too much to list here, she has about 10 pages dedicated to her sustainability efforts, but in short: VISION2020 Our vision is for an industry where human rights and sustainability are not the effect of a particular initiative, but the cause of a business well run. Where social and environmental injustices are not unfortunate outcomes, but reasons to do things differently.
here is a list of 19 more ethical, slow clothing, fair trade, and sustainable (not necessarily all but at least one of the above) fashion and clothing companies.
...and this merely scratches the surface of the hundreds of companies and initiatives being created and sustained throughout fashion and clothing. Millennials are demanding better, more transparent clothing, better wages, better working conditions, more sizing options, more gender neutral clothing, more functional clothing, more options at every price point, and are radically shifting the industry over time.
We hear a LOT about the pollution, slavery, and waste in fashion. What can we realistically DO as consumers? Please chime in with your own options, links, and projects or recommendations!

2019.02.21 02:06 Chazzyphant For those who want to fall in love or back in love with the fashion industry

Your dollars matter. Here's where you can spend them to shape the fashion industry to what we wish it would be:

Made with a blend of organic cotton and recycled polyester, you’ll look good and feel good when wearing them!
olori

Olori is the word for Queen in the Yoruba language {spoken in West Africa}, which symbolizes the inherent worth & power within every girl. All of Olori’s handbags are made by artisans and women-owned businesses in Nigeria, AND each bag pays one month of tuition fees for an underprivileged girl in Africa. It truly doesn’t get more women-focused than this!!

2017.03.19 03:26 lone_wanderer1980s Seeking input/commentary on my own thoughts/thinking on family, trust and the Church

Hello!
I wish to first say that I love this subreddit, finding it to be a wonderful collection of deeply intelligent, faithful, devout and dedicated believers. It is why I have come here for insight/commentary on my thoughts rather than other Christian subreddits.
So, I will get down to business. Last night I wrote a somewhat lengthy piece on the notion of family, what it means in Christianity (based on my own understandings, which I freely admit may be quite limited compared to yours), and how trust and vulnerability factors into that, and how all of this is affected and impacted by human brokenness. If I had to give a TL;DR to this, I would say that it is this: "Simply being a faithful, genuinely saved Christian does not, in and of itself, make one worthy of your trust."
Anyways, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what I've written so I can gain more insight into this matter and be made aware of where I may have slipped up here or there in my thinking process.
So, without further ado, if it's alright (and if it's not, just let me know), what follows is what I posted on Facebook last night. Hope you all enjoy :)

I want to touch on the notion and ideal of the Church as family (as laid out in Christianity), and the problematic nature of this claim, and the contradictions that result, when it is applied to the reality of human brokenness.
Let's first dissect the term 'family'. 'Family' consists of at least one of two states, but also - ideally - both simultaneously. This is - in my view - the case in both the Church (as a spiritual and cosmic entity) as well as human families.
The first state is that of intrinsic relation. In human families, this is the case of blood relation or adopted relation. Your birth mother is your family because you share blood with her and you are her child, and your adopted mother is your family because you share the relation of being her adopted child. In the Church, God is our Father and through Him, every Christian is a brother and sister to each other. In both cases, this is an objective reality, regardless of the closeness of our bonds with our familial brethren. My father is still my father regardless of our history or how I feel toward him or how he feels toward me, and the people at my church who are saved Christians are my brethren regardless of how we feel toward each other.
The second state is that of bond. This consists of a variety of dynamics - emotional closeness, love, loyalty, and more, often a number of these - if not all - operating simultaneously in concert. To use a relevant pop culture example, in the Fast and the Furious movies, Dom Toretto's crew are truly family, despite only one member of the crew (his sister Mia Toretto, played by Jordana Brewster) being related to him by blood. This is because the shared struggles, trials, triumphs and joys they have all been through together, and what they have sacrificed for each other, and their having proven their loyalty toward each other time and time again, have made them into a family by way of forging an ironclad bond between them that can never be broken. This is the case in real life - people who share no blood relation or adopted familial relation can become a family through a number of dynamics that forge a close bond between them.
Now, ideally, the bond should exist in families - human and the Church. It does not always, but this is the ideal. The Bible speaks of the Church as family with the assumption that this close bond of love and affection and loyalty will exist, or at the very least be actively strived towards with the ultimate goal and aim of achieving it.
But humanity is broken, and this extends to Christian relations as well. Numerous human families exist where various members of the family gossip and plot against each other, an where various members cannot be trusted and merely navigating the dynamics of the relations of your own flesh and blood become akin to the 'plots within plots' dramas and intrigues of popular soap operas. And in a number of church communities, there are those who - despite being loving and not hurting anyone - nobody can really stand and who are consequently only barely tolerated and largely unwanted and unloved.
What is to be done in this state of affairs? I will focus for this post on the Church. First, I think it is necessary to separate the two aspects of family within the Church. To identify the spiritual and cosmic reality of Christian relation, I would use the term 'spiritually related'. I am related to every Christian in the world, spiritually, just as I am related to my father - this is an objective fact, and cannot be changed by anything. This does not mean that I am close to every Christian in the world, and it certainly does not mean that every Christian in the world is worthy of my trust or that it would be wise or even desirable to entrust myself to every one of them or to make myself vulnerable to every one of them.
Then there is family - the close, familial bond. The people who will love and accept you no matter what, and will support you in whatever ways you need to be supported, and you them. This is the ultimate aim of the Church.
Now, to finally close in on what is to be done.
It is a reality that not every Christian, or even church community, will accept you, believer. Not every Christian community will want you or love you, even if the community is made up of genuinely saved believers. If you are in such a community, do not entrust yourself to these people. Do not make yourself vulnerable to them. To do so would only be to enable others to hurt you, either deliberately or through lack of care and consideration as to your feelings and your humanity.
I don't believe this is an anti-Christian sentiment, it is - in my view - common sense. It would be silly and wrong to ask a believing woman, who desperately wants to get married and be a wife and a mother, to completely entrust herself and to completely make herself open and vulnerable to a man whom she only met last week and has only been on a single date with. The same principle, in my mind, applies here.
It goes back to having people earn your trust. And ultimately, that means finding a healthy - biblically and socially - church community. One where you will be accepted by the community and invited into their lives despite the flaws and brokenness of your person. If you find such a community, and it has become clear that the people in it are worthy of your trust and vulnerability, then yes, entrust yourself to them and make yourself vulnerable with them, because they have earned your trust.
To sum up: merely being spiritually related to someone does not mean you should make yourself vulnerable to them. One should only make themselves vulnerable to a person or group that has truly demonstrated that they are family - that they are willing to love and accept you and to forge the bond of love and loyalty and intimacy with you that the Bible so casually speaks of and assumes.
That's about it. I hope this hasn't been a ramble. I'm still working and thinking through all this, and I totally would welcome your thoughts on this post, if you have any you would like to share.

2016.10.19 19:13 Arthur-Katyshev What surprised the new “Fast & Furious 8”

At CinemaCon exhibition film company Universal has officially announced the release of the 8 racing franchise “Fast and the Furious.” But studio bosses before the premiere of the 7th part stated that they intend to plan to shoot at least three parts of the acclaimed racing actors afterburner August 2017
Previous film grossed more than 1.5 billion. Dollars, so the creators did not postpone it indefinitely, and launched the film into production, so that the audience can meet with their favorite characters as quickly as possible. Already, “Furious 8” is the most anticipated film of 2017. Watch online Fast 8 Free
The long-awaited premiere of 2017 At CinemaCon Vin Diesel made a statement that is being prepared for launch in the production of films of the eighth. He immediately announced the release date: April 13, 2017. “This film will be a legend, you’ll see” — said Diesel. He added that the release date trailer in Russian, “Fast and the Furious 8” is expected by early autumn 2016. Interestingly, the release date on the Russian (in Russian) “Fast and the Furious 8” is assigned to a day later than the world premiere of the picture. Plot The story and the actors, “Fast and the Furious 8” are not disclosed before the release of the first trailer of the film. Therefore, fans no choice but to collect any information on rare photographs and statements of the actors. In this time to predict what will come up with the writers, it is very difficult. It killed not only Paul Walker, but also his character. Recently, Vin Diesel poster posted in Facebook, in which it became clear that most of the film’s action will take place in New York. Also, the characters waiting for a trip to Cuba, where he planned no less interesting adventure. If the crew will get permission to shoot on the island, “Fast & Furious 8” will be the first Hollywood picture, taken on the “island of freedom”. Now there is a selection of places to natural shooting. It was rumored that the filmmakers planned to shoot the film in Russia. It is known that the writers want to tie the plot of the film at any one protagonist. The cast and crew It is not known whether you take pictures of the producing director of the last part of James Wan. According to him, it is difficult to re-integrate into the filming process, because the loss of Walker has become a serious and severe loss for him. Recall that Paul died in time of shooting, and James had to exert all their creative and moral force to the output picture is still held. Wang has done a titanic work, so had not yet decided to accept an offer to become a producer or not. Now the director takes “Spell 2”. And recently received an offer from Warner to do the painting “Aquaman.” James is simply impossible to find time for “Fast and the Furious” in such a busy schedule. The new director of the film was the F. Gary Gray. The director is known for the films “in Italian Robbery”, “Law Abiding Citizen” and “Voice of the streets.” The new film will star starring Charlize Theron. Eva Mendes, previously starred in the second part of “Fast and the Furious”, he announced the desire to return to the franchise. Helen Mirren is also hoping for a role in the film. Favorite characters viewers last part of Jason Statham, Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, or, as they are called, “the Bald Brotherhood”, will return to us in the new part. About the rest of the cast, “Fast and the Furious 8” is not known. Return to the set permanent director of photography Ericson Cor. Details and trailer for the film: For the post of director Louis Lettere seriously considered and Adam Wingard. Vin Diesel stated that if the seventh part of the racing series was shot in memory of Paul Walker, the eighth will be charged for it. Thus, the crew wants to pay tribute to a good actor, who died tragically in a car accident. New York quite often appears in the movie, but in this franchise, he will be the site of action for the first time. If Cody Walker — Walker’s brother, Paul, was shot in the seventh part of the only episodes in the eighth he will have a full role. Character Kurt Russell’s new film will be a lot more. It will open better. James Statham has sent part of the script. Seriously consider the option of shooting several scenes in Egypt. Cody Walker will play Jack, who was related to the character of Paul Walker. One can guess that his son Brian was named in honor of his brother. Perhaps the writers will develop a situation in which the characters between Cody and Jordana Brewster draped loving relationship.

2014.12.27 01:21 tunawhitenocrustt The Fast and the Furious - Brian is still an undercover cop and he's not the only one in the group.

This is my first fan theory but it seems to work for me. Any criticism is welcome. Be warned; you’re in for a LONG read…
I reckon that Brian O’ Connor (RIP Paul Walker) has been an undercover cop throughout the entire soon to be 7 movies and that his role has been to keep tabs on Toretto as well as being recruited for global operations deemed too dangerous for any other operative.
Firstly, before the events of The Fast and the Furious, it is mentioned by Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) that Brian set him up to be arrested for stealing 8 cars while they still lived in Barstow, California. Brian always denies this but never gives a clear reason as to why the bust went down even though he was a cop at the time. This could’ve been his first undercover operation. Later on at the beginning of the first movie he is shown practising his driving around the Dodger’s stadium and is awful at driving the car - spinning out on a straight road. Now why would they put an unskilled driver in to infiltrate a street racing gang? Because he not only has connections from being undercover as a car booster with Roman in Barstow, but because he has earned himself a reputation as a useful undercover operative by busting Roman.
Brian has no knowledge of cars, he’s just a cop who has to pretend he is to fit in with the street racing gang.
Continuing on from this, Brian didn’t tune his car in the first film, it was built by the Police – hence why he can’t drive it for shit. If he had the knowledge to build it, he would’ve been able to drive it.
Brian also has the most generic taste in high performance cars. Anyone with car knowledge would know that the Supra, Evo, Skyline etc. are all standard Japanese sports cars that you can’t go wrong with, and can can easily be tuned and upgraded. Also, they are popular with young street racers. His vehicle choices could be explained by the police simply choosing the most popular vehicles at the time so that he fits in flawlessly with the ‘young urban street racer’ demographic. He also manages to blow his engine by using another tank of NOS even though he has hit his rev limiter of his highest gear which is a stupid move that would do nothing good for the car – only break it.
Brian starts a relationship with Mia (Jordana Brewster) in the first movie purely so that he can get closer to the group and be one of them which explain why he asks so many questions about Dom (Vin Diesel) on the first date and doesn’t seem to care about her. She is just a part of his cover even in the latest movie.
Finally, Brian lets Dom go at the end of the movie because they realize that he is bigger than just heisting Panasonic TVs from lorries. They could easily have a tracker put on the Supra which Brian gives him at the end of the movie. In the short film made between the 1st and 2nd movie it is shown that Dom lays low in Mexico, however, border control would’ve had him arrested since he has an outstanding criminal record and is wanted by the police (why the cop chases him after the race in the first movie). He only isn’t arrested because cops are told to ignore it so that they can keep surveillance on him. However, he doesn’t break any laws in Mexico so he isn’t worth arresting until something bigger comes along which inevitably will (the gasoline heists in the 4th movie).
In the second movie Dom is laying low and Brian is tasked with taking down the drug kingpin Carter Verone. He is still keeping his connections in the street racing scene since cops often keep up to date with current fads and trends (which explains why street racing is rarely mentioned in the later movies since its gone out of style and isn’t such a focus for law enforcement). Why would Brian make Roman stay at the boathouse belonging to Tej (Ludacris) unless to give Brian some space, and leave him alone to keep up to date with undercover reports, and let him keep in contact with his superiors.
In the epic scene when all the cars flood out of the garage to distract the cops the copters still follow Brian’s Evo and Roman’s eclipse – this isn’t because they think Brian and Roman are still in the cars but because they are unsure as to which one Tej is in and they’re looking to recruit him too. After all, Brian has been tracking him and has logged in all the street racing, and illegal gambling he is running from the garage and so could be threatened with jail time unless he complies and joins the police in their undercover operation (more on this later).
At the end of 2 Fast 2 Furious why would Brian join the FBI at the start of the 4th movie when he has loads of money that they stole from the bust and has a clean slate? Because his mission is over and he has been promoted to the FBI for his stellar undercover work. The FBI would never let a regular undercover cop into their ranks, especially one who has a criminal record and is known for letting a wanted felon go, unless of course this cop is actually an expert undercover operative who has ties and links throughout the street racing world and LA criminal gangs.
In Fast & Furious 4 Brian is a high ranking FBI agent whose current target is another drug baron – Braga. Brian is chosen for the taskforce because of his links to LA criminals and is ordered to start another undercover OP with Toretto’s crew since they know Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) was linked to Braga. A police tail on Dom confirms that he is at David Park’s apartment so Brian knows to turn up so that they can meet and Brian can get in with him again – similarly Brian is allowed to take Mia from a holding cell, seemingly without any backlash, so that they can get coffee and begin their relationship again – integrating Brian back into the Toretto family.
In the scene when they’re running heroin across the border a thermal camera would easily see cars with hot engines gunning it across a flat desert in the middle of the night but of course the FBI order the patrol to let them through on account of it being part of an undercover operation. Later on in the film, Brian tells Dom to hide the truck packed with heroin in a place where the police would never look – a police impound lot. This is so that the police can easily keep tabs on the drugs and ensure that the gangs can’t get them back. Furthermore, Brian acquires his Subaru here and isn’t stopped when leaving the car yard which can be explained by the resources he has as an FBI agent even though we are made to believe at this point he has ‘gone rogue’.
At the end of the movie when Dom is about to get busted out of the prison bus there is no police escort which is already odd. This can be explained as Brian knew that they were planning a breakout and the authorities agreed to let this occur so that they could see what else Dom gets into and to sting more criminals in the process. Brian tags along both to maintain his cover and to ensure no one is injured/no prisoners escape. A police team is probably waiting nearby to secure the bus the second they make their escape.
At the start of the fifth film (Fast Five) Brian is in Brazil with Mia. They’re not there to hide from the Police but because the FBI know that Vince (an old member of Toretto’s crew) has links to the crime lord in the area – Reyes - and so could be useful in taking him down. Brian meets up with him to secure and easy way in and gets a place on the job stealing cars for Reyes. Brian is then able to collect more info on Reyes after they steal the Ford GT40 as the GPS contains all his money laundering operations and where all the dirty cash is being cleaned. Police can’t hit them all at once so Brian convinces the team, while maintaining his cover, to hit one so that Reyes will put it all in the crooked cop’s vault and can be taken from one place. At this point Tej is recruited back into the crew along with the rest of them. Tej has a sudden knowledge of electronics and weapons and the connections to obtain advanced technology (the advanced RC surveillance car used when observing the vault could be being fed directly to FBI so they can scout the vault as well). Tej is also able to get an exact replica vault which the FBI would send allowing them to research their target/prepare better for the job.
Brian is 'off' with Dom in certain parts of the movie where if they were genuine friends they would be speaking heart to heart. When talking about their dads Brian simply says; ‘I don’t remember shit about my father’ which is an easy way out of a tight situation or possibly risking revealing personal information about his real life/family. Hobbs (The Rock) is now introduced but is a loose cannon so is kept to a minimum with his knowledge of what is going on with Brian’s undercover work. Him and his team go to the Favela thinking they are there to arrest Dom and the crew but have actually been ordered there because FBI can see through satellite imagery that Reyes’ men are arriving to kill Dom, Brian and Mia. In order to keep their undercover agent safe they send in Hobbs who in turn kills all the attacking hitmen keeping Brian safe. Tej later places a tracker on Hobbs’ car so that FBI can keep better tabs on him in case he may blow Brian’s cover since he doesn’t know Brian is working with the FBI. At the end of the film he gives Dom and the crew a ‘head-start’. This is just after he has been told that Brian is undercover and so allows them to leave since he knows Dom will be caught eventually.
In Furious 6 the team are living their separate lives but are still being monitored. Brian lives with Mia and knows what Dom is up to so he can report back to his superiors. Tej is living comfortably with his savings waiting for a call from FBI to put him back into action if needed. Tego and Rico, who helped on the heist in Fast Five, are never mentioned in this movie so it can be said that they were arrested for their involvement. When Owen Shaw – a dangerous terrorist is needed to be put down Hobbs gets in contact with Brian who in turn tells him where everyone is located. However, when Owen and his team are proven to be far more dangerous than they were thought to be (the flip car wrecking Brian and the crew/Hobbs being evaded by Owen) the team gets massive funding from the government which explains where the weapons, penthouse apartment, garage and cars come from. Tej’s knowledge of weapons and high-tech equipment comes from his training in the FBI and his seemingly limitless funds are actually just government money which allows him to get all the cars from the high class London car auction. This also explains why Tej and Hobbs are so friendly when around each other – they are both aware of the undercover operation. When Owen sends his men to kidnap Mia and Brian’s son Jack, the son is able to escape thanks to Dom’s ex-girlfriend and Police officer (who was also implanted to keep tabs on him) Elena taking the baby and escaping. Her and a nearby surveillance team were able to secure the baby’s safety but not Mia’s since it may compromise Brian’s cover.
Further on in the movie, Brian is able to get back to the United States even though he is a ‘wanted man’ and get placed into a maximum security prison of his choice, then escape back to London again. This is his police connections at work which explains how easily all of this is done without him being arrested which would’ve happened the second he would’ve arrived at Heathrow airport. The reason he risks death interrogating Braga in prison is because of Braga’s connections with Owen Shaw. If Brian were to formally interview him he would have to reveal his role in the FBI which Braga would inform Owen about and lead to Brian’s cover being blown.
The film then ends with the micro-chip super weapon being secured and Owen’s crew being killed which wouldn’t be possible without a team of highly skilled drivers and gunmen (Brian included). Brian then continues to monitor the crew in case there services are needed when taking down another high-profile criminal.
Therefore, Brian is still an undercover cop.
If you’ve sat through this much then you deserve a fucking medal. Thank you for reading.

WHY DON'T YOU AGE!? There is a painting in my attic that is doing that for me.
Thank you for this AMA and all your many great roles! Moment in your career that made you go "Wow, I never would have dreamed I'd get to do this" Would love to have you be a guest on an episode of my podcast to nerd out about tv, film, etc. Can we make this happen? I was probably 5 years old when my mother saw a commercial on television, and she had this thought that it would be fun for me to do commercials, because I had (and have) a lot of energy. She felt like it was a good outlet for me. So (this was in Cedar Rapids, Iowa) - there really wasn't much of an outlet for that kind of vocation, so she enrolled me in a modeling school that had an acting element to it. I ended up doing some local runway modeling... to make a long story short, the school ended up taking some of its clients out to California for the International Modeling & Talent Convention. So my brother (who's seven years older than me - he was already doing drama and musicals in school) and I went out to that together - it was my first time to Los Angeles, which was mindblowing. I remember being fascinated by the palm trees from the plane as we were landing. And it was there that I met the man who became my manager. He stopped me in the lobby of the Biltmore hotel and asked if I had ever thought or was interested in being an actor, and I remember responding "yes! that sounds fun." Shortly thereafter, my brother, mother and I moved out to Los angeles for pilot season, to audition - and after 6 weeks of auditioning (*I got a commercial agent too), I got my first job, which was a Paula Abdul music video, for "Forever your Girl." Which, consequently, I later found out was directed by David Fincher before he started making movies. So that was kind of it - I had that first experience, I did a number of commercials after it, and it was later that year that I got my first role in a film, which was a small role in "Back to the Future II." Which was mindblowing to a 8 year old. The moment in my career - I feel like I've had a lot of those experiences. It was incredibly surreal being onstage with a number of the case members and Peter Jackson accepting the award for Best Picture at the Oscars. You don't ever imagine that you'll be in that scenario. Hosting SNL was a similar, surreal experience - a show that I grew up watching, and I was petrified at the notion of hosting, and I found myself loving it. I have to say my life has been blessed with many experiences I never imagine I would have, and not even all of them relating to the movie industry.
Anything you can tell us about the new season of Wilfred? The new season of WILFRED - we definitely focus on the origin and the mystery that is the childhood drawing. And we address my issues with my father a bit more, and I think (from what I can tell of the experience making this season), it will be the funniest season, because I don't remember ever having laughed as much.
What is the most common misconception people believe about you, which is not true? That I'm either Daniel Radcliffe or Tobey Maguire.
Is Ian McKellen as cool as gandalf in real life? Ian McKellen might be cooler than Gandalf.
Elijah, I've heard you are a gamer! What is your current favourite game you've been playing? Anything you're looking forward to? I just started playing THE LAST OF US - it's incredible. I'm looking forward to the new QUANTIC DREAM game, and the new CALL OF DUTY as well. And GTA 5.
Elijah, have you ever dealt with depression or similar adversities? If you have, how did you pull through it? I can't say that I've dealt with depression, because I think that's a really heavy thing, and I think that people sometimes use that word really lightly in reference to being blue or depressed. So no, I've not dealt with depression, but I deal with anxiety on a minor level. It's something that I've had most of my life, and it never manifests on an uncontrollable level with panic attacks, it's just more reflective of a sensitivity to everything around me. Most of the time, I just accept it or try to understand what I'm feeling anxious about, and work through it - sometimes if I'm nervous, I talk about it, and that helps. You know, all you can do is sort of ride it out, because sometimes it has a mind of its own. Also I tell myself that it's manifested out of my mind and emotions - I think a real understanding that I came to about anxiety specifically is created by what you're sort of unconciously telling yourself.
Which of your roles was the most fun to perform, and why was it Spyro? So are you basically asking why did I do the voice for Spyro? Because it seemed like a fun videogame to lend a voice to. I like videogames.
Did you get to keep the ring? EDIT: TALKING ABOUT THE PROP FOR CLARIFICATION ;) EDIT 2: He has signed up! JRCornetto97. Awesome. Yes, I did. I've got one of the Rings. Peter and Fran gave it to me upon completion of pickups for the first film. I don't know how many other Rings there are, it's a small number - there are a few really large rings they made for close-ups and different perspectives, depending on what they were shooting the ring for. But I have the standard size that I wore around my neck - and I have the chain as well.
Why didn't you take the eagles straight to Mordor man? Take it up with J.R.R. Tolkien!
Do you agree that Andy Serkis deserves an Oscar? Also, what was it like eating people in Sin City? I think his performance is extraordinary. I think if the question is about whether or not a motion capture performer (or performance) should be nominated, or should be considered, the same as another live-action performance, then yes - I think it should be considered. And i think his work in any of the films that he's done as a motion capture artist has been excellent simply as an actor, motion capture aside. And there's no question that he has created one of the most memorable characters of the past decade with Gollum. So should he be recognized for his work as an actor? Absolutely.
Well, in Sin City I didn't actually get to eat anyone - there was no simulation of eating - so unfortunately I didn't even get to have an imagined experience eating the flesh of my victims.
What is the horror movie that has most influenced you? What other movies are you producing on the horizon? Oh man... what most influenced me... I think the horror movie that looms most in my mind is HALLOWEEN. I don't know that that movie influenced me, but I think it was a horror film that I saw relatively early in my horror consumption that I feel is an incredibly influential film, and where I was able to see to a certain degree what you can do with the genre at a higher level.
So there's a film called A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT, which is an Iranian vampire film shot in B&W and in Farsi, that's in post-production right now. We are about to shoot a movie called COOTIES, about a zombie virus that affects children pre-puberty and a group of teachers who are stuck in an elementary school (and that was written by Leigh Whannell and Ian Brennan; Leigh wrote SAW and Ian created GLEE, so it should be an interesting combination). And we have a film that we picked up last year while we were programming our horror film festival called NIGHTMARE CITY with Cinefamily called TOAD ROAD, which is a documentary that weaves in a horror narrative and it's being released this October.
Do you remember the taste of the strawberries mister Frodo? I do. The Shire has delicious strawberries.
What kind of music do you play when you deejay? I play a wide variety of music; everything from old soul and funk records, to international pysch music from Brazil and France and Africa, to recently old disco records and early techno records and disco edits. And then, you know, I've got old garage rock records too. Pretty much anytime I travel to a new city, the first 2 things I'm looking for are record stores and restaurants.
How did you like your performance in sin city? Was it fun to play such a creature? Thank you! It was a blast. I remember sitting down with Robert Rodriguez before they started shooting the feature, and we were at dinner, and he told me that he was adapting a number of the SIN CITY books into a film, and he said "come out to my car, and I'll show you the first scene of the movie." And he had shot the opening scene with Josh Hartnett as a promo to prove to Frank Miller that it was possible to bring his work to the screen in a way that was true to the comic book. And I was later asked if I would come in and put myself on tape for Kevin, which was hilarious, because Kevin doesn't have any dialogue, so my audition for Robert in a hotel room in LA consisted of me staring at a camera with glasses on whilst he read Marv's dialogue.
What's it like working with a person who has to act like a dog? It feels really normal to me now. I think I'm kind of like Ryan in that I've accepted him as a part of my reality. I find the dog-isms (when Wilfred is actually behaving as a dog, but in human form) really funny.
Love the show by the way, thanks for doing this AMA. You're welcome - I'm really excited to be doing this AMA!
What's your favorite movie/tv show? Favorite television show is probably GAME OF THRONES at the moment, but I can't wait for the last season of BREAKING BAD.
Favorite movie I answered earlier with HARVIE.
In the event of a full-blown zombie apocalypse what weapon would you want to have the most, and what sidekick/partner would you want to have to back you up as you try to survive? In a Zombie apocalypse... a flamethrower would be pretty awesome, but the zombies could still walk as they're on fire. I'd go with a shotgun with a flamethrower attachment. Or an assault rifle, because then you've got distance, and you can keep a great amount of distance between you and the zombies as you pick them off.
Also. As far as a sidekick is concerned, I gotta say it's not necessarily muscle that you want to rely on in a zombie apocalypse - you need someone sprightly, limber and fast. So the girl in THE WALKING DEAD with the katanas -that's the kind of sidekick you want. In fact, she'd be perfect.
If you can turn into any animal at will (and back again) what would you pick and why? If I could turn into any animal - probably a falcon or an eagle, something that could fly. Because then you could quickly get from one place to another.
What's your favorite ice cream? And is legolas as hot as he is in the movies? Coffee ice cream. And that's relatively subjective, I think? He looked the same as he does in the movies in real life when we were filming.
Why did none of the characters in The Faculty die? 1.) SPOILER ALERT: I guess they don't die - maybe it's just the way that that alien manifests? because it takes over - almost like INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS - maybe once that parasite leaves the body, it doesn't kill you. But there's also that thing at the end of the movie where they are all suddenly cool at the end - like my character gets the girl - maybe they're all actually aliens? Also - special mention - it's Robert Rodriguez's birthday today, so happy birthday Robert!
What's your favorite film? 2.) My favorite film - that's a very difficult question. But I tend to - I have a stock answer. Which is HARVIE, with Jimmy Stewart. I go back to that movie a lot. I've seen it a number of times. There might be films that I actually love more than that, but I love the film and think it's really profound and I think it can be enjoyed on multiple levels - it's very funny, but it's also left for interpretation as to what Harvie is and what is gong on with Jimmy Stewart's character. And WILFRED is actually quite similar in some ways to Harvie.
I must say I loved the Faculty but LOTR was excellent. I would love to know how working with Hugo Weaving was, I know his roles are generally so serious is he just a downright funny guy or what? He's a sweetheart. I just recently saw him for the first time in a long time when we were doing promotion for THE HOBBIT. And it reminded me what a kind and gentle soul he is, and very funny, with a great wry sense of humor. The thing is, he can actually be incredibly funny - he was in THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILA, so he can be very funny. Not a lot of people know that.
Just wanted to say how much I loved Everything is Illuminated! I'm a huge fan of yours but this is definitely my favorite. What do you do when you're looking for a break from acting? I spend my time buying records, playing records (which is definitely a creative outlet), and work with my production company keeps me busy. And it's good to find time to actually take off, too.
How hard is it to stay serious while talking to a grown man in a dog costume? It's not hard, it's actually pretty easy. Seeing Jason in the costume is so normal now, that sometimes I forget that it might appear odd to the outside world. There's a part of Wilfred that is real to me, I think.
If you had to choose between Mr T and Samuel L. Jackson, who would you rather have as a granddad and why? Samuel L Jackson. I used to watch THE A-TEAM when I was a kid, so I definitely have a love for Mr. T, it was one of my favorite TV shows as a kid. At the end of every episode, I would be so charged with energy I would grab pillows and get out the aggression that the show somehow inspired. But Samuel L Jackson... I don't think you can get more badass. I think he has taken ownership of "Badass" and that definition in a way that has surpassed many people. He's a cool motherfucker.
Thanks for the AMA Elijah! What was your favourite scene to shoot in the LOTR trilogy? I would say that one of the more gratifying scenes to shoot was the scene with Frodo and Sam on the side of Mount Doom, when Sam has to pick Frodo up to take him up the side of the mountain. It was really emotional and difficult, yet it felt really good. And any scene from THE FELLOWSHIP with a large group of us - with the four Hobbits, or with other members - those scenes were always a lot of fun, because we all got along so well. When The Fellowship broke at the end of the first film, in some ways that happened while we were shooting, because different factions were shooting in different sets - so it was always nice to see friends.
Hey Elijah! How were you introduced for the role of Ryan on Wilfred? I was sent the script from my manager, who had read it and thought it was very funny, and I read it immediately, and it was unlike anything I'd ever read before or seen on television. And it made me laugh, and I loved how weird and dark it was. So I just wanted to move forward with it from there.
I actually have two questions for you. In your opinion, what is the worst/most nerve-wracking part of auditions? I’m trying to overcome an over-whelming fear of them, and for some reason, hearing the answer to that question seems to help just a little bit. 2.) Well, I still get nervous for auditions. I don't know if that will make you feel any better. I find that sometimes, if I articulate that I'm a little nervous, it helps. I also find that to find a comfort zone for myself by communicating - just having a chat with people in the room prior to actually getting into the audition part helps. To just talk about something else and relate to them as people - it humanizes the experience, and takes it away from being a judgement hou.
What was it like to be the King of the Bacchus Parade, and one of the princes the next year (when Sean was King)? I was there both years, and I actually have one of the rings from when you were King. It just looks like it would be an incredible experience. Oh! And thank you for introducing me, unknowingly, to some pretty spectacular music. Any recommendations? 1.) It was an incredible experience. I didn't know much about Mardi Gras prior to that, and it really is an extraordinary way to experience that festival and New Orleans - and all of it I was experiencing for the first time. Totally overwhelming, but extremely exciting, riding on a float through the city and throwing dubloons with my face on them and beads at people... A number of my friends came and were on the float with me, it was a pretty magical trip. And then getting to return as Prince to Sean Astin's king was great because I actually as a result didn't have any of the responsibility does - it's actually a quite intense schedule for the King, so as prince, I got to enjoy all the same fun experiences without having quite so much responsibility.
How did the movie, "The Good Son" affect you as a child. I've always wondered how much a child in a movie like that is told, or sees. Did they talk to you about right & wrong? I was 12 when we made that, and definitely read the script, and had an understanding of what was actually happening. So I was aware of the darkness of Macaulay's character, and ultimately what the result at the end of the film is. And I think at that point - I remember reading it and having a sense of morality, and I think even understood that he was probably mentally or emotionally disturbed, I didn't feel like anything had to be explained to me.
Hey man! Maniac looks great! Who are your favorite movie psycho killers? Michael Myers, Leatherface, the devil that possesses Reagan, Hannibal Lecter...Ed Gein has been amalgamized into a variety of different characters (Norman Bates, Leatherface, the list goes on). Oh, and Patrick Bateman, because he's probably my favorite villain from the literary world. I mean, there's no better character than that as far as a psychopath.
One of my favorites that I never see discussed on the webs is Radio Flyer. It really captured life from a kids perspective the same way The Sandlot or Stand By Me did, but never really received similar acclaim. Do you think the dark tones turned people off? That's a good question. I think that might have been the case. It was actually written by David Mickey Evans, who wrote and directed THE SANDLOT. I agree, it's a film I love, and interestingly enough the original version of the film was far darker than the movie that we made.
Hey Elijah. When is the faculty 2 coming out?!? In an alternate universe, it would be cool to have a reunion. Like Josh's character - did he fall apart? Did Casey end up getting into photojournalism, or is he a millionaire from an internet startup? Is he married to Jordana Brewster's character or did he find someone else? Now that I think about it, there's a lot to explore. And the return of the aliens, obviously.
Do you own a dog? If so what kind? I would like a dog. I particularly love Labradoodles, which is not exactly the most masculine name of a dog to say - "i want to get a labradoodle!" doesn't exactly sound awesome. But they are beautiful dogs. I love cats too, for the record - I know that people are usually either dog people or cat people, but I am animal ambidextrous.
Hi Mr.Wood two questions, was it fun working with Peter Jackson? Also is Jason Gann a nice guy? He seems like a really nice person. Yes, it was fun. It was more than fun.
(Fan boy alert) you were the best in The Lord of The Rings and I hope you keep up your successful career! Jason is lovely, he has a gentle, sweet soul.
Hi!! I didn't know you were a DJ! How would you describe your style? I don't know if I have a style in terms of what I do with the records live, I think that I would define myself as more of a selector than someone who sort of creates and manipulates live textures with music. I just play songs, so it comes down to song selection for me. I don't know if I have a weird talent. I wish I could draw, it's a gift that people have that I think (unless it were playing an instrument) it's the one thing I really wish I could do, is to draw, because i could imagine spending a lot of time filling sketchbooks, and I don't have an ability for it at all. I think it's something that you can learn, but there are people who can just do that - it's an innate ability.
Any advice for aspiring actors trying to start their careers? (Fresh out of college, oh god please somebody help) It's not easy, you know? It's difficult to get into the industry, because there is so much competition and there are so many people who move to either NY or LA with the same hopes and dreams. I think that the most successful people (in any art form or vocation) are people that don't wait for it to come to them. They are auditioning, making short films, helping out friends - so that they are active and not just on an audition path, so that at the very least you are creative and doing what you love to do in hopes that it will expand into something that you can make a living from doing. I think it's important to hit the ground running to a certain degree. And it's easy to get discouraged, so perseverance is important. As a kind of guiding principle, integrity is of the utmost importance - so decide whether you want to be an actor because you want to be famous, or because you find it creatively gratifying because those are 2 very different things. As long as you're being true to yourself, you can't really go wrong.
What's your favourite mythical creature? Minotaurs are pretty incredible. I think I used to think that Medusa / Gorgons were kind of sexy, actually, except for their staring with their snake hair turning you into stone. I'll have to go with dragons - although I'm of the belief that some of these mythical creatures may have existed at some point. I like to believe in the possibility of everything. I have read a great quote from ALICE IN WONDERLAND - "I can't believe that, said Alice. 'Can't you?' the Queen said in a pitying tone. "Draw a long breath and shut your eyes." "There's no use trying," she said: "one can't believe impossible things." "I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen"
It's an awesome quote (sorry for typos).
Hi Elijah! I love Wilfred, and I can't wait for season 3 to premiere tonight. I didn't prepare a long list of questions, but I just came up with one right now: was there anything on Wilfred that never made it to the final cut? Like a joke that was too inappropriate, or a joke that was too difficult to get right? That's really sweet! It's a good birthday to have, fellow Aquarius.
There are definitely jokes and moments that didn't make the final TV edit of episodes of WILFRED, although I can't remember any specific jokes that didn't make it. But we were actually talking about maybe doing special DVDs for next season, wherein we actually shoot kind of a non-edited version of a scene that could make a special edition DVD which I think would be kind of fun, and we could include more off-color words, humor, etc. Most of the content that ends up getting cut isn't cut because of the nature of the content, it's because of time. We have 21 or 22 minutes for an episode, so oftentimes our episodes run ever slightly too long, and the first things to go are usually jokes, because the show relies structurally on storytelling, and we can't cut story, otherwise the episode won't make as much sense.
Hi Elijah! As a music lover and a fan of horror films, which horror film would you say has the best soundtrack? Goblin's SUSPIRIA score is awesome. And John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN score is incredible.
Do you have a resident deejay spot? What's your favorite city to guest deejay? I don't, but I'm a part of a DJ collective called The Embassy that has a regular dj night at a place called "No Vacancy". One of my favorite experiences DJing was at a small bar in London called Market Bar, in an area called Dalston.
What is your favorite thing to eat? Pizza is one of my favorite things, as it turns out, and I love Japanese food. I've eaten all kinds of sushi and am a pretty massive foodie in general.
Did you have a chance to enjoy the beauty of New Zealand while you were filming there, or did the work keep you pretty busy? The work (thankfully) was located in the midst of the great beauty of New Zealand - quite often in remote areas that some New Zealanders have never been to - so we were very fortunate to be surrounded by its landscapes all of the time. It was really extraordinary.
I just wanted to say that I loved you in Yo Gabba Gabba. Oh thanks! it was fun to be a part of that show. it's such an incredible children's program, both for adults and for kids. And I was really excited to be a part of it.

2012.09.30 03:13 rand0ml3tt3rs What movie shaped your perception of what high school was like?

The Faculty. I was 12 when I first saw The Faculty and it essentially framed my schema for what high school life was like. I was convinced that when I got to high school there was a specific hierarchy everyone belonged to.
Casey Connor (Elijah Wood) - the weedy nerd, outcast and bullied by his peers. Zeke Tyler (Josh Hartnett) - the drug dealer and lone wolf, self-assured but also outcast. Delilah Profitt (Jordana Brewster) - head cheerleader, top of the social ladder. Stan Rosado (Shawn Hatosy) - quarterback, dating the head cheerleader. Stokely Mitchell (Clea DuVall) - goth loner, bullied by the mean girls. Marybeth Louise Hutchinson (Laura Harris) - new girl, shy and sweet southern belle.
Once I got to high school I realized that its social awkward and shitty for everyone not just for the "Caseys." So which movies shaped your perception of high school?
EDIT: I a word.
